The D-Ring is designed to aid steering, but does not have the cheek pressure that the full cheek has. It is sometimes used instead of an eggbutt to stop the bit cheeks slipping into the mouth, when turning. The shape of the ring provides a quiet and neutral position in the horse's mouth. Great for young or inexperienced horses. They receive optimal lateral support and guidance through the rings.

The ported mouthpiece can be placed perfectly in the horse's mouth. The horse's tongue gets enough space because of the flattened area on the port. Many horses react to this with more relaxation and chewing. Perfect for horses that won't tolerate pressure on the tongue and react with head shaking and such. Good choice for horses that like to play with their tongue and get it over the bit. The port will help to prevent that by removing centre tongue pressure.
